Harvard University will relocate its renowned Chinese-language program from Beijing to Taipei’s National Taiwan University (NTU) next year, saying the move is driven by a lack of friendliness on the part of the Chinese host institution.

Before the move, Harvard University students attended the summer language program in Beijing. However, lately the program had been experiencing difficulties, mainly the unwelcoming environment that was related to a shift in the Chinese government’s attitudes toward American institutions.

Next summer, Harvard University students will attend the eight-week program at NTU, which hopes that Harvard students will be able to learn the language in the academically free environment.
