Researchers at NYCU created a mobile platform that enables healthcare workers to remotely monitor COVID-19 patients’ blood oxygen concentration levels, which reduces the need for frontline medical workers to contact COVID-19 patients in person.
Recently, Taiwan has seen an unexpected rise in the number of COVID deaths, which, according to experts, are caused by “happy hypoxia.” Happy hypoxia leaves patients feeling well, not realizing their blood oxygen concentration level is lower than normal.
Generally, the oxygen saturation level should be between 95 percent and 100 percent. If the readings of the oximeter drop below 94%, which is abnormal, the platform will send a signal to healthcare workers to warn them of the situation. Several hospitals in New Taipei City and some quarantine facilities in Taipei have implemented the system.
His parents are monitoring how he uses his cell phone.
