The consumption of pork did not fall as predicted after the ban on the import of US pork was lifted. According to the government, the total amount of pork consumed surged by 6,000 tons in the last month and a half, compared to the same period last year.
The government said it would invest NT$13 billion over the next four years in upgrading the quality and hygienic conditions of the domestic industry. The pork exports are expected to rise by more than 20 percent.
The lifting of the ban on the import of US pork was seen to improve trade relations between Taiwan and the U.S.
開放美豬進口後，很多豬農擔心民眾不敢再吃豬肉，但數據證明不用操心。根據政府的最新資料，從2021年一月到二月中，豬肉的銷量跟去年同期相比，還增加了6000噸。
政府也表示會再未來四年投資130億台幣，用於國內畜牧業的升級，提昇品質與衛生條件。如此台灣的豬肉出口也預期會再提昇20%。
美豬解禁至今爭議不斷，但政府希望能藉此提昇與美國的貿易關係，達成簽署雙邊協定的目標。
