Unit 2 ·

Miranda

“Details of your incompetence do not interest me.”

incompetence(不稱職)是職場中評價能力的關鍵詞。

實用替換:“I’m not interested in excuses. I want results.”(我對藉口沒興趣,我要的是結果。)
“By all means, move at a glacial pace. You know how that thrills me.”

這是經典的 sarcasm(反諷)。

實用延伸:“Please, take your time.”(語氣冷淡時=你最好快一點)
“Andy, be serious. You are not trying. You are whining.”
「Andy,

incompetence
/ɪnˈkɒmpɪtəns/
lack of ability or skill to do a job properly
“The manager was fired due to repeated incompetence.”
反義字:competence(稱職)
glacial
/ˈɡleɪʃəl/
adj.
extremely slow, like the movement of a glacier
“The project moved at a glacial pace and missed every deadline.”
sarcasm
/ˈsɑːrkæzəm/
the use of irony to mock or convey contempt
“‘Great job,’ she said with obvious sarcasm.”
形容詞:sarcastic(諷刺的、說反話的)
thrill
/θrɪl/
to cause someone to feel excited or pleased (used sarcastically here)
“‘I’m sure that will thrill the clients,’ he said coldly.”
名詞:thriller(驚悚片)也是同一字根
whine
/waɪn/
to complain in an annoying, childish way
“Stop whining and find a solution instead.”
