Airbnb大台北地區近九成不合格!90% of Taipei’s Airbnb listings are illegal

While backpackers favor Airbnb because it’s more affordable, an estimated 90% of Airbnb listings for Taipei are illegal, which means they have not obtained a hotel business license or do not meet homestay registration requirements. What’s worse, some have become hotbeds for pornography, gambling, and drug use.

The main problem with Airbnb is that refunds are difficult to get, while many of the listings are through third parties who sublet properties, making it difficult to make owners accountable. Currently, the rental company is calling on the government to establish a clear regulatory framework for short-term rental accommodation.
