Gioacchino Gammino, who escaped from prison in Rome nineteen years ago, had been on the run since 2002. For years, the police have investigated and traced him to Spain but could not locate him precisely.

Months ago, a Google Street View image pictured two men standing outside a small shop in a town near Madrid. Though their faces were vague in the picture, the police recognized Gammino with the scar on his left chin. They soon confirmed his identity through other information gathered on the internet. Gammino married a local woman and became a chef and an owner of a fruit and vegetable shop in Spain.

The fugitive was finally arrested in December 2021, and the details of the capture came to light after being reported in the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.
