In this November’s Mayoral Election, 36-year-old Democrat Michelle Wu became the first woman and person of color to be elected mayor of Boston. Wu made history as the first mayor of the city who is not a white man for over 200 years.
Her parents moved from Taiwan around 40 years ago. She and her siblings were born and bred in the States. She attended Harvard University and Harvard Law School, and in 2013, she launched her political career as a city councilor at the age of 28. Wu believes that public service is the best way to change the world. On her winning night in front of her supporters, she promised to make Boston a city that welcomes all who see it as home.
His accent convinced people that he was born and bred in Taipei.
