Taiwan encourages people to recycle unused smartphones

Did you know that all the medals used for the Tokyo Olympics were made of recycled electronic devices, including unused smartphones?

According to the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), every 100 smartphones contain about 1.1 grams of gold, 6.3 grams of silver, and 1,000 grams of copper. This means that your unwanted electronic devices are reusable and valuable.

However, the recycling rate for smartphones in Taiwan was just about 5% last year. The EPA is now working with the five telecom operators to encourage people to recycle their unused smartphones to make the most of unwanted electronic devices.
