About two-thirds of couples start out as friends and remain in platonic relationships long before sparking a romance, new research suggests.
68% of the participants, regardless of gender, age, education levels, or ethnic groups, reported that their current or most recent romantic relationship began as a friendship.
On average, the “friends first” initiators had been friends for nearly
22 months before their relationship turned romantic. In addition, almost half
of the total sample felt that friends-first initiation
was the best way to start a new romantic relationship.
They prefer to maintain a platonic relationship.
