訂機票：看懂費用明細
在國外航空公司或訂票網站訂機票，付款前的費用明細會把價格拆成好幾項。最上面那一項只算機票本身，稅金和附加費另外列在下面。
base fare 票價本身（不含稅金與附加費）
| The base fare is only 280 dollars, but the total comes to 410 after taxes and fees. | 票價本身只要 280 美元，但加上稅金和其他費用總共是 410 美元。 |

看到的價格比別家便宜時，可以打電話問航空公司客服，這個價格有沒有含燃油附加費。
fuel surcharge 燃油附加費

明細上不一定寫 fuel
很多航空公司的英文明細把燃油附加費寫成 carrier-imposed surcharge（航空公司附加費），在明細上找不到 fuel 這個字時，可以找這一項。
租車櫃台：問清楚怎麼還油
到美國租車，取車時可以先問櫃台人員還車時油量有什麼規定。最常見的是 full to full：滿油取車、滿油還車。

櫃台人員可能這樣回

拿鑰匙前，也可以問櫃台人員這台車要加哪一種汽油。美國加油站的汽油分 regular、midgrade、premium 三種。
regular 一般汽油

美國油槍上的數字跟台灣不一樣
美國油槍上標的 87、89、91 是另一種算法，87 大約等於台灣的 92，91 大約等於台灣的 95。
加油站：看價格、付款、加滿
還車前要找加油站把油加滿。開進加油站前，可以跟同行的人一起看路邊的價格牌。

美國加油站多半是自助加油，在加油機上直接刷卡。外國發的卡常被要求輸入郵遞區號（ZIP code）而刷不過，這時要走進店裡，跟店員說你在幾號加油機。

想說「我要去加油」時
很多人會直翻成 I need to add oil。想說要去加油時，可以說 I need to get gas. 或 I need to stop for gas. 美國把汽油叫 gas，oil 在車上指的是引擎機油；add oil 雖然收進了牛津英語詞典，但意思是替人打氣的「加油」。
gas prices 和 oil prices 差在哪
新聞裡的 oil prices 指原油價格，單位是每桶（per barrel）；在加油站付的是 gas prices，單位是每加侖。跟同行的人聊加油站的價格，用 gas prices。
